Dihydrotestosterone, or 5α-dihydrotestosterone (also called also known as 5α-androstan-17β-ol-3-one), is a sex hormone, or androgen, that is created by the body from testosterone by an enzyme called 5α-reductase and causes certain biochemical effects in the human body.

Amonsgt these effects are the development of secondary sex features during puberty, and male pattern baldness and prostate hyperplasia in middle age.
