Sometimes something comes along that reminds you right about the point you think you’ve heard it all (and dismissed a lot of it as BS) that you actually know so little and there is so much more to learn. This week I learned about bio-photonics.
For years I’ve sneered at the New Agers who chant, wave their crystals & talk about interpreting someone bodily aura; now it seems there might be something to at least one of those.
The human body emits biophotons, also known as ultraweak photon emissions (UPE), with a visibility 1,000 times lower than the sensitivity of our naked eye. While not visible to us, these particles of light (or waves, depending on how you are measuring them) are part of the visible electromagnetic spectrum (380-780 nm) and are detectable via sophisticated modern instrumentation.
The standard model of biophysiology is that cells, organs, and systems within the body communicate via chemical secretions and reactions in a standard mechanical process model, and via enzymes in more sophisticated methods. Bio-photons upset this and open up new ideas on how intra-physical parts of the body and brain communicate and do so very rapidly with high bandwidth.
The initial practical uses of this know-how are in imaging for surgery and cellular activity measurement. The potential uses of emissions information virtually unlimited, and include non-invasive disease diagnosis.
Information on circadian and lunar effect cycles on biophotons output provide rich avenues for practical research, and output mediation via meditation and herbal dosing have interesting cause/effect experimentation fun to be had.
Stay tuned on this as there will be more to come. And remember, that New Ager you mock might be bonkers but they also might have an important point or two to share with us.
